Unique rail journeys
For a railway experience with a difference, take a ride on one of the nearby steam or water-powered railways. The funicular railway between Lynton and Lymouth is perhaps the most unusual as it climbs 500 feet in a matter of minutes, offering breath-taking views as it traverses the steep cliffs.
Board the narrow gauge railway between Woody Bay and Killington Lane Halt. Alight and enjoy a cream tea before returning, or for a longer day out - walk to the pretty village of Parracombe and enjoy a drink at the Fox and Goose. For a more strenuous trip, why not walk to the Hunter's Inn at Heddons Mouth before a well earned ride back on the train! Visit the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway website to check out the latest prices and timetables.
A little further afield you will find the West Somerset Steam Railway which runs services between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard. The age of steam is still in full swing aboard the "Quantock Belle", the "Raveningham Hall", and all of the many engines operated at different times throughout the year.
